The program also includes another recent commission, “Explain Yourself!” by composer Viet Cuong, plus selections by Gioachino Rossini and Duke Ellington. Soprano Sulker has performed on Bay Area stages, including at San Francisco Opera, West Bay Opera and around the country.

Oracle
Sometimes, the spaces in between objects can be as compelling as the objects themselves, and what’s missing can be as essential as what’s present. Sheila Ghidini explores the intriguing effect of negative space and cast shadows in “Oracle,” her current installation at downtown Redwood City’s Art Kiosk. Working with reconfigured wood chairs and other furniture, the piece takes some inspiration from the surrounding architecture of Courthouse Square, according to Ghidini’s artist’s statement. “An adjacent chalk and pastel drawing replicates the cast shadows and negative spaces created by these forms,” she states. “Deciphering between what is real and what is illusionary becomes a visual game for the viewer.”
