Three Stanford men shot even-par or better during Monday’s action at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate to jump from seventh to third in the team standings in Querencia, Mexico.
Stanford’s 6-under 278 was third-best total among the 15-team golf field and eight strokes better than its opening round. At 4-under through 36 holes, the Cardinal is seven shots behind second-place South Florida with clubhouse leader Georgia at 19-under.
Stanford’s Maverick McNealy began the round 54th among individuals and turned heads my bumping ahead 42 spots into 12th with a 6-under 65. McNealy went without a bogey while closing with four birdies on his final six holes.
McNealy is 2-over through 36 holes and one shot behind teammate Viraat Badhwar, who followed his opening 69 with a 1-under 70 for ninth place.
Arkansas’ Taylor Moore and South Florida’s Aksel Olsen are tied at 7-under in the medalist chase. David Boote is tied for 20th after his 2-over 73, Brandon Wu contributed an even-par 71 and Isaiah Salinda was 1-over with a 72.
Women’s golf
The Stanford women’s golf team stands in sixth place after two rounds of the 16-team Bruin Wave Invitational co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Two rounds were played Monday on the 6,250-yard course. With three players residing in the top 20, the Cardinal has a 36-hole score of 20-over 596 (291-305). UCLA leads at even-par 576.
Sophomore Shannon Aubert recorded rounds of 1-over 73 and 72 and is tied for ninth individually at 1-over 145. Senior Mariah Stackhouse (70-77) is tied for 15th at 3-over 147 and senior Lauren Kim (69-79) is tied for 17th at 6-over 148.
Junior Quirine Eijkenboom (81-77) is tied for 58th at 158, while junior Casey Danielson (79-82) is tied for 73rd at 161.
