Stanford junior Nnemkadi Ogwumike did not practice with the women’s basketball team Saturday as the third-ranked Cardinal (14-0, 23-2) prepares to meet host UCLA in an important Pac-10 contest Sunday at noon.
Ogwumike received treatment on her injured ankle instead of practicing with the team Saturday. She left Stanford’s 78-64 victory over USC with the injury Thursday night.
Her status for the Bruins’ game will be determined Sunday morning. Ogwumike sprained her right ankle early in the second half against the Women of Troy.
The reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year currently leads the team with a 16.3 scoring average. She’s second in rebounding with a 7.8 average to Kayla Pedersen’s 7.9. Chiney Ogwumike averages 7.3 boards per contest.
In related news, senior point guard Jeanette Pohlen was named one of 11 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, the award’s committee announced Saturday.
The Nancy Lieberman Award is a national project of the Rotary Club of Detroit honoring the nation’s top collegiate point guard in women’s Division I basketball.
Pohlen is one of two candidates from a western school, joining Gonzaga’s Courtney Vandersloot.
