Caltrain is responding to a fatality that occurred on the train tracks near the California Avenue station in Palo Alto on Friday morning, according to the agency.

The agency learned about the death on the tracks at about 9:20 a.m., when a southbound train reported seeing something on the tracks ahead. The train was able to stop before reaching the area, according to the agency.

Upon discovering the deceased individual, Caltrain began checking video records to determine when the fatal incident would have occurred. Transit police were in the area to investigate the incident, Caltrain said.

While the affected tracks remained closed for investigation as of 11 a.m., trains had resumed moving through the area of the incident.

Trains were temporarily running on a single track though the area around California Avenue, according to Caltrain. By 1:30 p.m., all tracks were cleared for maximum speed, the agency announced.
