Yianni Gardner tripled to drive in a run in the first inning, Barry Mainz followed with an RBI groundout and Dominic Cacchione took care of the rest in Sacred Heart Prep’s 4-1 victory over visiting Burlingame in a Peninsula Athletic League League Bay Division contest Tuesday.

John McGrory added three hits and Reece Lindquist had two hits and an RBI for the Gators (9-2, 2-0), who travel to Burlingame for a league game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Cacchione (3-1) struck out 11 and did not walk a batter in an efficient outing that saw him throw 79 pitches, 60 for strikes. He gave up a run on four hits.

The Gators, winners of eight of their past nine games, added a pair of runs in the fourth. McGrory doubled and Lindquist singled to score courtesy runner Macaluso. After stealing second, Lindquist scored when Kyle Cody’s grounder was mishandled.

In the PAL Ocean Division, Anthony Waller collected three hits and Menlo-Atherton beat host South San Francisco 6-2.

Jake Wang and Tommy Eisenstat each added two hits for the Bears (4-5, 2-0), who host South San Francisco at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Wang, Eisenstat, Pete Discher, Jake Albro and Cade Galles each drove in a run for M-A.

In a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division game, Samio Uze tripled and doubled, Shiva Bucklin added two hits, including a double, but Gunn dropped a 10-0 decision to visiting Monta Vista on Tuesday,

The Titans (6-5, 2-1) visit Monta Vista on Thursday for a 4 p.m. league game.

Niko Lillios collected two hits and drove in four runs and Palo Alto held off Pleasant Valley 9-8 on Tuesday in the second game of the Boras Classic in Sacramento on Tuesday.

Max Jung-Golberg drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings (9-4), who carried a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Pleasant Valley scored eight times in the seventh before Hyunwoo Roh recorded the final two outs for the save. Spencer Rojahn gave up two hits in four shutout innings.

Nathan Willis added three hits while Aidan Berger and Paul Thie each had two hits.

Palo Alto lost, 3-1, to Davis in another tournament game Tuesday. Jonathan Gottlieb recorded Paly’s lone hit.

Track and field

Bryan Kagiri and Henry Saul each won a pair of events and the Palo Alto boys beat visiting Lynbrrok 70-57 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League dual meet Tuesday.

Four others each won an event for the Vikings (1-1), who will be sending athletes to the Stanford Invitational this weekend.

Julia Doubson was a double winner for the Palo Alto girls, who dropped an 80-47 decision to Lynbrook.

Kagiri won the 400 in 53.37, about 0.25 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also went 23.48 to win the 200 by less than a second.

Saul won the 3,200 in 10:06.78, edging teammate Sam Craig by 11 seconds. Craig won the 1,600 earlier in the day, racing 4:40.64.

Aaron Gao won the triple jump in 39-4, Louis Passarello won the shot put with a best of 39-4 and Joseph Reynolds threw the discus 183-3 to place first.

Doubson raced 5:26.19 to win the 1,600 and then came back to race 12:08.79 to win the 3,200.

Maya Reuven, Emma Johnson and Karen Li also won events for Paly (0-2). Reuven went 26.24 to win the 200, Li won the 300 hurdles in 16.45 and Johnson won the shot put with a best of 30-4.

Boys tennis

Menlo continued its winning ways, beating visiting Harker, 6-1, in a West Bay Athletic League match Tuesday.

Singles players Siddharth Chari, Andrei Volgin, Bo Leschly and John Kimeach won in straight sets, combining to drop just two sets.

The Knights (11-0, 6-0) are scheduled to host Sacred Heart Prep at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gunn’s No. 2 doubles team of Leo Naddell and Dilan De Silva and No. 3 doubles team of Bruno Naddell and Max Zhang each recovered from a first set loss to win key matches and help the Titans top visiting Palo Alto, 4-3, in a SCVAL match Tuesday.

All three doubles matches went to third set tie-breakers in the competitive match. Paly’s Doubles team of Adam Love and Nathan Ellisen also dropped their first set and rebounded for a victory.

Nikolas Olsson and Colin Chan each won their singles matches for the Titans (3-4, 2-4) while Ishan Balakrishnan and Kunal Srivastava won for Palo Alto.

Gunn is scheduled to host Los Gatos on Thursday at 4 p.m. while the Vikings (3-6, 2-6) were slated to host Sacred Heart Prep on Wednesday in a nonleague match.

Girls lacrosse

Taylor DeGroff scored seven goals to help Castilleja beat Sacred Heart 16-10 in a West Bay Athletic League match Tuesday.

Olivia Watson added three goals and Anika Adzich had two goals and five assists for the Gators (5-6, 3-3), who host Menlo-Atherton on Wednesday, April 4.

Genna Gibbons scored four goals to lead Sacred Heart Prep (4-2, 4-1), which hosts Cleveland Heights on Thursday, April 5.

Menlo-Atherton lost to visiting Mitty 9-7 in a WBAL contest Tuesday. The Bears led 4-2 at the half on a pair of Bea Geaghan-Breiner goals. Despite 13 saves from M-A goalie Hunter Zell, the Monarchs took their first lead with three minutes remaining.

In a nonleague match, Menlo topped visiting Carondelet 11-8 as Page Wolfenden scored four goals and Abby Wolfenden scored twice and added two assists.

Charlotte Swisher finished with two goals, and six draw controls. Abby Wolfenden scored twice and had two assists and Alyssa Sahami made five saves for the Knights (4-3), who host Mitty at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Softball

Palo Alto scored six runs in the fourth to overcome a deficit and beat host Saratoga, 9-5, in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest Tuesday.

The Vikings (4-4, 1-1) collected 14 hits on the day and Fabiana Teofan was the winning pitcher.

Teofan helped herself by driving in five runs on two hits. Sydney Liu collected three hits, Sophie Frick and Lindsey Kim each added two hits. Victoria Soulodre, Kim, Ella Jones and Zoe Silver each drove in a run.

Palo Alto travels to Los Altos for a league game Thursday at 4 p.m.

Boys’ golf

Bill Kirkpatrick and Jonathan Dicks each shot a round of 1-under 35 to share medalist honors in Menlo-Atherton’s 192-243 victory over San Mateo at Poplar Creek GC on Tuesday.
