The Stanford women’s soccer team is headed to the second round of the NCAA tournament after blanking visiting Sacramento State on Friday, 7-0, to begin its quest for a possible national title.

Four different players scored for Stanford, which will host Pac-10 rival Cal on Sunday in a second-round match at 1 p.m. The Bears eliminated Santa Clara, 2-0, in Friday’s other opener at Stanford.

Cardinal freshman Christen Press scored within the match’s first 37 seconds with a bending shot to the near post from the left side of the box. Kelley O’Hara, Lizzy George and Kristin Stannard also scored for the Cardinal (15-2-5), which also got an own goal.

Goalkeeper Erica Holland recorded the shutout. Thd Stanford-Cal winner will advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

All four Pac-10 teams won their first-round matches. USC beat Creighton, 3-0; and UCLA downed Cal State Fullerton, 3-1.

Stanford is the No. 1 in the West.
