Palo Alto police are seeking a black Mitsubishi with two red racing stripes down the middle — the getaway car for three Hispanic men who held up a Palo Alto man in a broad-daylight robbery Monday (March 7) in downtown Palo Alto.

Police said the victim reported at 12:21 p.m. that he was walking in the 700 block of Cowper Street when he was approached by the men, one of whom pulled a knife.

The men, all in their 20s, forced the victim into a secluded driveway, stole his cash and left in a late 1990s two-door black Mitsubishi with the two red racing stripes down the middle from front to back, Agent Max Nielepko reported.

Nielepko said anyone who knows of the car or has other information is encouraged to call the Palo Alto Police Department at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org — anonymous voicemails and text messages can be sent to 650-383-8984.

  1. I’m assuming they were wearing the signature black hooded sweatshirts that all these thugs wear?
I used to love to walk around in that neighborhood but now I don’t feel safe there!

  2. I’m with No Name. Bike and/or foot patrols at random times could be an integral part of regular vehicular patrols. Of course, resident volunteers would be much cheaper, but that would be too much like being individually responsible for civil order. Can’t have that!
