A Mountain View couple reported missing Monday after failing to return from a camping trip in Los Padres National Forest over the weekend have been found.

Brandon Boers, 29, and his wife, Amanda, 26, were located at about 12:30 p.m., Monterey County sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Richards said. Richards said the Boers are alive but he did not know their condition.

They were reported missing after Brandon failed to show up for work Monday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. They had been scheduled to return home Sunday from a two-night camping trip.

A sheriff’s search-and-rescue team began searching at 6 a.m. today. The California Highway Patrol assisted in an aerial search of trails leading away from where the Boers’ vehicle was found near China Camp on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.

  1. People, god invented the cell phone ! take with you ! no signal, then TEXT..Texting never fails..Accountibility..Yes they should pay for all of the searchers time, efforts and expenses !

  2. PER my post on other thread (…..missing)

“Posted by listenin’ live, a resident of the Community Center neighborhood, 33 minutes ago

3 PM version ——- they had to take care of they dog who was with them and somehow injured during their trip………………….

comforting to know he’s a Marine Corps captain”

  3. Notice that the other article referred to them as a man and wife and this one refers to them as Brandon Boers and his wife Amanda. Sexism is alive and well in the local papers!

  4. Search and Rescue is for these purposes, wouldn’t you like someone coming for you? Its a service offered to us in this first world nation that still has vast areas of wilderness.

Marine captain or not, even a special forces soldier could be stuck with an ankle fracture and or other minor medical issues that in the incorporated areas and suburbs would be no problem.

Lets give them the benefit of the doubt, someone mentioned they were helping an injured dog they had with them.

  5. The should pay for this? Based on what criteria? The article gives very little info! Sheesh, have some compassion.

BTW, texts do NOT work everywhere. Heck, I have a hard time getting texts out in local, prosaic places around here – coffeehouses, libraries, parking lots.

  6. Boers is a Marine,
Speculation as to his assignments, personal details, home etc is not wise these days when we are involved in 2 wars.

  7. Of course texting doesn’t work without a signal. The misconception occurs because in times of busy overload on a system, a call will not get through, but a text is stored until such time as there is space on the system. Therefore, sending a text is good because it will eventually make it. Likewise, if you are in an area where the signal is weak or fluctuates, sending a text is a good idea because if the signal does momentarily get strong enough, it will get through.

However, in a situation like this, it is unlikely that sending a text would have been any better than trying to call.

  8. Sharon-
He’s a Marine, not a CIA agent.By the way, speculation is not wise in many situations, but I do not believe this was a matter of National Security, as you imply.
Glad the couple and their dog got home safely!

  9. As a member of a search and rescue team, I know that there are many reasons why people get lost. A person’s past history has absolutely nothing to do with how he or she gets lost. Making judgments does nothing and it is in very poor character to critique these people for something that happens to thousands every year.

Thank you to the team members that helped find the lost couple (some of whom are my friends). Lost people are not always that lucky.

  10. I’ve read that search and rescue workers are against having rescued people pay for their services. Their experience is that people who think they have to pay don’t seek help until they are desparate, which ends up costing more for the search and rescue teams. These delays sadly, result in more tragic and costly outcomes.
