Community members are holding a vigil on Wednesday for 6-year-old Lisa Xavier, the Menlo Park girl who was killed last month when an alleged street racer hit the car she was riding in with her parents.
The vigil will be held in a field at Laurel Elementary School in Atherton.
Event organizer and family friend Rashmi Bhandari said there will be a candle-lighting ceremony, songs led by music teachers, and a segment dedicated to sharing memories of Lisa.
“This was a creative, fun-loving child who was loved by all her friends,” said Bhandari, whose son was in Lisa’s class. “She was always happy, always ready to make friends.”
Bhandari said Lisa’s parents will be at the vigil but don’t plan to speak or answer questions.
Lisa and her parents were driving in Menlo Park just before 2 p.m. on Nov. 12 when their car was hit at the intersection of Willow Road and Bayfront Expressway, police said.
The girl and her mother were taken to Stanford Hospital with serious injuries. Lisa died the next afternoon.
Bhandari said Lisa’s mother is still recovering from her injuries.
Police said they believe the driver who caused the crash was racing another car. No arrests have been made in the case.
Wednesday’s vigil will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Laurel Elementary School, 95 Edge Road, Atherton. It will be held outside regardless of the weather.

A stream of obscenities just ran across my head at the race driver. Isn’t this the case where the driver and the car’s ownership are both known to the police? I hope he’s captured soon. RIP, little girl.
How tragic! This poor family! One act of stupidity has caused a lifetime or sorrow for an innocent family.

What a senseless tragedy. Life in prison seems almost tame for this criminal. My heart goes out to Lisa’s family.
Hopefully the vigil will have a good turnout and the community can show it’s support for the family and renew our call to apprehend the culprits.
