Three players broke par to help the No. 3-ranked Stanford women’s golf team capture the stroke play portion of the second annual East Lake Cup on Monday at historic East Lake Golf Club.
Freshman Andrea Lee and senior Casey Danielson fired 4-under 68s and junior Shannon Aubert added a 71. Lee and Danielson tied for first in the individual competition in the prestigious four-team event, with Lee securing the medalist trophy by sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the sixth hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The trio helped the Cardinal post a best 4-of-5 player score of 6-under 282 to earn the No. 1 seed on Tuesday when the format switches to match play.
In a rematch of last year’s NCAA Championship final, Stanford will face No. 4 seed Washington (+28, 316), while No. 2 seed UCLA (-1, 287) opposes No. 3 Duke (+2, 290) in the other semifinal match.
The finals and consolation finals will be played Wednesday. Golf Channel will provide live coverage from noon-3 p.m.
In related news, Lee was selected the Pac-12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for October, the conference announced Monday.
Lee posted a win in her first tournament for Stanford at the Windy City Collegiate in Chicago. She closed with a 5-under 67, capped by a 20-foot birdie putt at the final hole, and finished with a 54-hole score of 10-under 206.
Lee backed it up with a tie for second at the rain-shortened Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course, where she recorded scores of 72-68 to finish at 2-under 140.
Last week, Lee tied for 23rd at the Pac-12 Preview in Hawaii.
In three starts, she averaged a team-best 71.62 for the third-ranked Cardinal.
Lee is ranked the No. 2 women’s college player in the country by Golfstat and No. 7 in the Women’s World Amateur Rankings.
