ROSE CARE SERIES … Learn how to care for roses year-round with Filoli’s Rose Care Series, which starts on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Filoli, 86 Cañada Road, Woodside. Instructor Mimi Clarke will guide participants through three sessions during this series: “Pruning and Care: Climbers, Ramblers & Scramblers,” “Pruning and Care: Hybrid Tea Roses” and “Summer Rose Care.” The first lesson focuses on climber roses, pillar roses, wall roses and ramblers, and how to prune and train them. The next two classes take place on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1:30-3:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fees for this series are $135 for members and $160 for non-members. NEIGHBORHOOD STROLL … Walk through Downtown North and learn about the trees on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon. Tree walk participants will meet at Johnson Park, on the corner of Hawthorne Avenue and Kipling Street in Palo Alto. Canopy staff and an expert arborist will lead the free, two-hour walk. Participants will learn about local tree specimens, including how to identify them and their historical context. In addition, experts will answer questions and share tree selection and care advice. Canopy asks that participants RSVP online.
