Menlo College soccer swept the Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week awards as men’s keeper Alex Coates-McDowall and women’s keeper Kaylin Swart earned the honors.
This marks the first time each player has earned the honor this season.
The Menlo women earned a 1-0 win over No. 21 The Master’s College on Thursday before following that up with a 3-0 win over Arizona Christian on Sunday.
Swart played a big roll in the Oaks’ win over The Master’s College with four saves, one of which came off a penalty kick that would have tied the contest. She followed that up with a two-save effort on Saturday.
The victory over The Master’s College was the program’s first-ever win over a ranked NAIA opponent. Swart and the Oaks now have recorded nine shutouts in 15 total games this season.
On the men’s side, Coates-McDowall helped the Oaks to a 1-1 draw against No. 17 The Master’s College before notching a clean sheet in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Arizona Christian.
Coates-McDowall made six critical saves in Thursday’s draw, a number of which involved acrobatic efforts. Saturday’s shutout was the eighth of the season for the Oaks and fifth for Coates-McDowall.
