Leah White doubled in two runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Stanford softball team rallied from seven runs down to beat host Utah, 12-11, in a Pac-12 Conference contest on Saturday.
The Cardinal (3-13 Pac-12, 26-19 overall) scored nine runs in its final two at bats after facing a 10-3 deficit after three innings.
Madi Schreyer, who pitched five innings in relief to earn the victory, got Utes’ catcher Shelby Pacheco to ground out with the bases loaded to end the three-hour contest.
Schreyer (18-10) gave up four runs – one earned – on eight hits. She walked three and struck out one. Three Stanford errors led to eight unearned Utah runs.
Stanford’s offense exploded for seven runs in the sixth to tie the game at 10. Kylie Sorenson’s three-run home run was the big blast, though Tylyn Wells drove in a pair of runs with a triple, White singled in a run and Jessica Plaza’s groundout plated another run.
Bessie Noll, who had two hits in the game, also had a double in the inning as the Cardinal hit for the cycle among its seven hits in the frame.
Kayla Bonstrom also hit a home run for Stanford, which hosts Santa Clara in a nonconference game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Cassandra Roulund also had two hits along with Wells. White and Bonstrom, Stanford’s 1-2 hitters in the order, each had three hits and combined for five RBI.
