Sacred Heart Prep grad Jun Kristofferson returned to the pool this season for the first time in more than two years.
Kristofferson, who helped the Gators finish among the top three in the Central Coast Section swim championships in 2006 and 2007, is at College of San Mateo and working to get back into swimming shape.
“You can see he has the technique,” CSM coach Randy Wright said. “But he’s probably the sorest swimmer on the team. He’s been out of the pool for a long time.”
Kristofferson attended UC Santa Barbara but was unable to swim because of an injury. He’s getting a new start in CSM’s new pool.
“He’s just been slow out of the gate,” Wright said. “By April, we’ll see where he is.”
Sophia Hommes, who helped Menlo-Atherton win the Peninsula Athletic League meet last spring, also swims for the Bulldogs.
Elsewhere, M-A grad Abi Arias, who sat out last year with a knee injury, made a nice debut with the Bulldogs in their baseball season-opening 8-0 win Friday over visiting Sierra College. He doubled and had two hits.
Arias, a first team all-PAL Ocean Division pick in 2009, is an outfielder/designated hitter.
“He probably could have hit in the middle of the lineup last year,” CSM coach Doug Williams said. “He can really swing the bat. He has good aggressiveness and we’re happy to get him back.”
Palo Alto grad Kasey Fields runs for the Bulldogs’ track and field team. He’ll be used in the 400 this year after running the 100 and 200 last year.
“I think the longer race suits his talent better,” CSM coach Joe Mangan said.
M-A grad Kendra Thomas is a sophomore on the CSM women’s basketball team. She started her JC career as the team manager.
