Sophomore Emily Arbuthnott outdueled junior Melissa Lord, 7-6 (6), 6-4, as part of all-Stanford semifinal of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Taube Family Tennis Center on Sunday.

Arnuthnott meets Cardinal freshman Michaela Gordon in Monday’s title match at 11 a.m. at Stanford.

Gordon beat fellow freshman Janice Shin, 6-1, 6-0, in the other semifinal to advance.

Stanford is guaranteed a singles champion for the seventh time in eight years and the winner earns her first career title.

The Cardinal was shut out in doubles as Caroline Lampl and Lord were downed by Cal’s Olivia Hauger and Karla Popovic, 6-4, 6-3 and Oregon’s Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita topped Arbuthnott and Gordon, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (4).

For the 11th consecutive season, Taube Family Tennis Stadium is serving as the host site for the tournament.

In addition to Stanford, the ITA’s Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle and UC Davis.

Stanford recorded runner-up finishes in both singles and doubles at last year’s event, representing the first time the Cardinal had failed to produce either a singles or doubles champion since 2008.
