Frank Garrett, Jr., of Menlo Park, passed away on Jan. 18, surrounded by family at Stanford University Hospital from complications arising from aspiration pneumonia. He was 91 years old.

Frank was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on Feb. 20, 1927, to Frank, Sr. and Irene Harvey. Frank was the second born of four siblings, all of whom together with his parents, have predeceased him.

Frank graduated from Lincoln High School and then went on to university, but received a draft notice from the Army. He instead chose to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served 30 years as a Yeoman, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer, before his Honorable Discharge in August 1975. He was stationed on numerous ships and bases around the world including Arizona, Alaska, Taiwan and Japan.

Frank met and married Jean Lin Yang on the May 12, 1964, while stationed in Taipei, Taiwan. Together they have two sons Stephen Chamy and Jerry Chungua.

The family moved back to the United States after Frank's posting to Japan in 1969 and settled in the Bay Area. Frank lived in the Bay Area for 50 years, living the last 22 of those years in Menlo Park.

For the last 6 years of his active duty, Frank served as the Navy Liaison Representative to West Coast Defense Contractors. He then took on a civilian role at GTE for 17 years. After retiring from GTE, Frank ran a successful property business together with his wife and continued to remain active in its running until the time of his death.

Frank was a most beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Lan Yang Garrett; sons Stephen of Great Missenden, United Kingdom, and Jerry of Menlo Park; daughters-in-law, Sheila (Stephen) and Linda (Jerry); and five grandchildren Kaley, Keanu, Kylie, Khloe and Maxim.

Memorial service
Viewing and Liturgy will be held on Jan. 31 at the St. Denis Church in Menlo Park from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by Military Burial at 1 p.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.
