Claburn Halsted "Ying" Jones

Ying Jones was born in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, to Catherine and Claburn Everett Jones. He was raised along with his two sisters, Catherine and Mary Ann, and brother Robert in Highland Park, Illinois. Ying graduated from Northwestern University.

During World War II Ying served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp as a navigator on B-24s in the Pacific. While attending Officer Training at Haverford College in Pennsylvania he met his future bride, Dougal Kirsopp. Ying and Dougal married in 1948.

After the war he went on to graduate from the Harvard Business School. Upon graduation Ying and Dougal moved to California, where he joined Arthur Andersen & Co in San Francisco.

He spent his entire career with Arthur Andersen becoming a partner and heading up the Northern California audit practice before retiring in 1978.

Dougal and Ying raised their four children in Atherton. Ying was a founding member of Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club and an active member of the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.

Ying?s true passion was the time he was able to spend at Lake Tahoe. He was an active member of the Tahoe Yacht Club, where he proudly showed his award-winning antique wooden boat, ?Tah-Ga-Yin-Ga? for more than a decade. During their golden years Ying and Dougal resided part time in Palm Desert. Their last few years were spent in Phoenix, Arizona.

He is survived by three children, Claburn Niven Jones of San Mateo, CA, Nena Jones Brogan of San Marino, CA and Edgar Mark Jones of Menlo Park, CA. He is also survived by his brother Robert and sister Mary Ann in addition to nine grandchildren.

Ying is preceded in death by his wife Dougal, his daughter Linda Jones Falk, and his granddaughter Larkin Kathleen Brogan.

A memorial service will be held at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave., on Friday, September 13, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
