MAN'S BEST FRIEND ... The city of Palo Alto's 14th Annual Dog's Best Friend 5K run and walk will get under way at 8 a.m. at the Baylands Athletic Center on Sunday. Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

VIVE LA FRANCE ... The International School of the Peninsula is hosting its annual French country carnival, "La Kermesse," on Saturday, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy the food and fun at the school, located at 870 N. California Ave. in Palo Alto. Cuisine from France, as well as China and other nations, will be available. Kids can enjoy pony rides and carnival games. For information, call Lynn Pieron at 323-2488.

JASPER RIDGE FILM WANTED ... The Stanford Center for Professional Development is producing a short documentary about the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve and is looking for any home videos of swimmers and families who visited the site before it was closed to the public in 1973. For more information, contact producer Tamsin Orion at 725-6561.

RECYCLE ... The city of Palo Alto and Pacific Bell have begun the annual Telephone Directory Recycling Drive. Through June 19, phone books may be dropped off at the Palo Alto Recycling Center, Mollie Stone's Market, parking lot "L" downtown and the Stanford Recycling Center.
