Community notebookIN-HOME SERVICES . . . Applications for appointment to the In-Home Supportive Services Advisory Board are now available. There is one opening representing current or past users of personal assistance services. The board meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in San Mateo. HEALTH BOARD . . . Applications for appointment to San Mateo County's Mental Health Board are now available. There are currently three vacancies. The board reviews and evaluates the county's mental health needs, services and programs. It meets on the first Wednesday of every month, 12-2 p.m in San Mateo. Deadline for receipt of applications is April 10. Applications can be obtained from Dale Ellen Young, 401 Marshall St., Redwood City, or by calling 363-4634.
HAZARDOUS WASTE PICKUPS . . . The city of East Palo Alto is now conducting a program for curbside recycling of hazardous wastes. Residents who have paints, solvents, batteries or other hazardous wastes should call 1-800-449-7587 to arrange a time when the materials can be picked up. There is no charge for the service.
CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY . . . The East Palo Alto police department will hold its first Citizens Police Academy this month. Topics will include basic criminal law, laws of arrest, gangs and narcotics, and weapons familiarization. The start date will be April 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center, 2415 University Ave., East Palo Alto. Applicants must be East Palo Alto residents over 18 years old. HOUSING ELEMENT . . . The revised housing element of the East Palo Alto General Plan is now available for viewing or two-day checkout from the East Palo Alto Library, 2415 University Ave. The library is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
NASA WORKSHOP . . . NASA Ames Research Center will sponsor an Information Integrity Workshop, to be held April 27-28 at the Sunnyvale Hilton, 1250 Lakeside Drive in Sunnyvale. The conference will examine the development and application of data security technologies needed to improve aviation safety. A block of rooms wil be held until April 12.
