Two people were killed and two others injured in a traffic accident that closed Alma Street in Palo Alto the afternoon of July 25. In the accident, a northbound Mustang struck a second vehicle that was attempting to enter Alma southbound near North California Avenue. The northbound car was struck by a third car on the driver's side door. The driver of the northbound car, Gurami Davidashvili, 25, of Mountain View, was killed instantly. A passenger in the car, Ali Noroouzi, 26, of San Jose, died later of his injuries. The driver of one of the other cars, Betsy Ann Birnbaum, 66, of Palo Alto, was hospitalized and remained in serious but stable condition on Thursday. The third driver, Carol Richards, 25, of Palo Alto, was initially hospitalized and then released. The Mustang was traveling at such a high rate of speed it became airborne after the first collision.

A man lost his vehicle to carjackers in Menlo Park July 24. The man, whom police did not identify, gave three women a ride from a gas station in San Bruno to Menlo Park, where he was hit over the head. The vehicle is a maroon 1992 Ford Taurus, license number 2YMT804.

A 75-year-old Palo Alto man committed suicide July 19. Police say the man, whose name was not released, had been suffering from depression and shot himself with a revolver. The incident occurred on the 400 block of Stanford Avenue.
