Lifetimes of Achievement awards put spotlight on seven local residents

In the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley, it is often difficult to find free time for yourself, let alone to serve the community.

Yet individuals like Virginia Debs, Art Fong, John Johnson, Jeanne Kennedy, Merrill Newman and Ellen and Tom Wyman have not only found the time for Palo Alto, they have dedicated their entire lives to the betterment of the community.

To recognize their altruism, Avenidas will honor the seven with its Lifetimes of Achievement award.

The honorees, all over 70 years of age, were chosen for their exemplary service and involvement in the community, as well as the depth and significance of their work. Past recipients have included writer and teacher Wallace Stegner; businessman and philanthropist David Packard; and Hall of Fame sportswriter Leonard Koppett.

The awards will be presented at an event May 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (650) 326-5362, ext. 35.
