Mark Twain will be the subject of a conference on Friday at Stanford University.

The 8th Annual A La Carte & Art Festival will take place this weekend in downtown Mountain View.
Thursday

"Hello Dolly"
will open tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1105 Valparaiso Ave. in Menlo Park. The show is presented by the Stanford Wards. Additional show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A donation of $3 is requested. Tickets can be reserved online at www.stanfordwardmusical.org.

Youth Art will be on display through May 30 at the Palo Alto Art Center. The exhibition features featuring works by K-12 students from the Palo Alto Unified School District. A reception will take place May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center. "The Phantom Tollbooth, Jr." will be presented today at 4:30 p.m. at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. Additional show times are Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and May 19 at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults; $3 for children. "The American Landscape" will run through June 30 at the Lyons Ltd. Antique Print Gallery, located in the Town and Country Village in Palo Alto. The exhibition draws from a 300-year history of English and American printmakers depicting America the Beautiful. Stanford University
will host a conference today on the subject of "Mark Twain at the Turn-of-the-Century, 1890-1914." The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the Terrace Room, Margaret Jacks Hall, Bldg. 460, and from 2 to 4 p.m. in Levinthal Hall, Stanford Humanities Center. National and international Twain scholars will give presentations. The conference is free and open to the public. The symposium will also take place on Saturday at UC Santa Cruz. "Coppelia" will be presented by Western Ballet tonight at 8 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, located at 500 Castro Street (corner of Castro and Mercy streets), in downtown Mountain View. The 8th Annual A La Carte & Art Festival will take place today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Castro Street between Church Street and Evelyn Avenue in downtown Mountain View The festival will feature live music, a juried arts and crafts show with 200 exhibitors, savory ethnic and classic American cuisine, premium wines and microbrews, a farmers' market, cooking demonstrations, street performers and amusements for kids. The event will showcase 20 handcrafted steel "memorial trees," adorned with images of artists who have served their country. Glass fruits and vegetables will also be adorned on the trees.
