Tree of Dreams Make a dream come true for boys and girls by sponsoring a gift for needy children. Tags with toy wishes hang from the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula's Tree of Dreams, located in the Pavilion at Stanford Shopping Center, through Dec. 24.
Urban Ministry of Palo Alto Donations of food and clothes are requested for the very needy. Urban Ministry operates a clothes closet, food closet, shelter and meal, program and drop-in center. Groceries and turkeys are desired. Volunteers are also needed to distribute meals for the holidays. Urban Ministry is located at 400 Mitchell Lane, Palo Alto. Second Harvest Food Bank Collects 21.2 million pounds of food each year to distribute to 411 agencies in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Donations of food, money and volunteers are welcome. Call 610-0800.
St. Anthony's Padua Dining Room The largest dining room for the needy on the Peninsula serves hot lunches to 600 people a day. Donations of food, particularly ham, pasta, poultry, rice, cereals and canned goods are needed. Turkeys needed for the holidays. 3500 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park. Call 365-9664.
Fight Hunger in East Palo Alto The Ecumenical Hunger Program has a new address in East Palo Alto. Donors are needed to provide food and clothing, especially for the holidays. Ecumenical Hunger Program, 2411 Pulgas Ave., East Palo Alto. Call 323-7781.
Photos with Santa Benefit Everyone, including pets, can have a photo taken with Santa and help kids achieve their potential. A portion of Santa photo sales is donated to Palo Alto's nonprofit Achievekids, helping youth find their full potential, through Dec. 24.
American Red Cross Giving doesn't have to cost money. Volunteers can learn life-saving techniques, such as CPR, first aid and disaster preparation, helping with fires, floods and earthquakes. Contact the Palo Alto American Red Cross 688-0415. www.paarc.org
Operation One Warm Coat There are still children and adults of all ages in the community who don't have a warm winter coat. Help the homeless and needy stay warm this winter by donating a warm, used or new, coat or jacket. Local Coldwell Banker offices are accepting warm garments. Contact local offices for information. Boy Scout Wreath Sale Help the scouts raise funds and build leadership by purchasing a fresh wreath. On Dec. 6 and 7, scouts from Troops 5, 50 and 57 will sell traditional redwood frond wreaths door-to-door, or purchase wreaths at the Scout House on Middlefield and Melville; or curbside at Waverley and Embarcadero or Middlefield and North California.
Avenidas Fundraiser Have fun and help programs for senior citizens on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. There will be Victorian-era, British music hall entertainment and local actors, musicians and scones. $3 Avenidas members, $5 nonmembers. Avenidas, 450 Bryant St., Palo Alto. Call 326-5362.
Festive Sale Benefits Community Projects Fresh holiday arrangements, wreaths and swags and other festive plantings will be sold by the Garden Club of Palo Alto on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds support community projects, such as the Palo Alto Senior Center, Gamble Garden or Heritage House and the Trees for El Camino project.
