OAKS WIN BIG . . . The Menlo College football team scored early and often in a 56-25 victory over visiting Puget Sound on Saturday. Oaks' quarterback Frank Borba threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns on 12-of-13 passing and running back Duane Miller rushed for 182 yards, just off his school record of 198 yards set earlier this season, and scored two touchdowns. Menlo (6-2) amassed 531 yards of total offense. Palo Alto grad Brandon Springer extended his school career interception record to 16 with a pick against the Loggers, his sixth of the season. The Oaks scored on their first three possessions and were never headed. Receiver Mike Andreacchi's had two receptions, both for touchdowns, while Scott Russell and Joey Risi also caught TD passes from Borba. Ferni Garza took over from Borba in the third quarter and threw a touchdown pass to Justin Rhodes before rushing for another score. Miller has rushed for 924 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. The 11 touchdowns are a single-season record. Miller also has the career touchdown mark with 24. He set a school record with 1,081 rushing yards last year, and now has 2,590 career rushing yards, also a record. The Oaks visit Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma, Wash., on Saturday at 1 p.m.

CITY GOLF FINALS . . . Shooting a 9-under-par 135, San Mateo resident Trent Tressler claimed the overall title of the Palo Alto City Men's Golf Championships over the weekend at the par-72 Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course. Tressler, a San Jose State grad who won the tournament in 2001, shot rounds of 67 and 68 in the two-day event to beat Jimmy Tsunezumi by three strokes. Joseph Bramlett shot a 3-under 69 on the final day to move into a four-way tie for third along with Lance Granville, Chris McDonald and Brian Thompson, who all finished 2-under 142 in the field of 173. Menlo School grad Jesse Steinhart finished with a 3-over-par 147 while a pair of Palo Alto students, Will Haydon and Natty Stern finished 6-over 150.

CARDINAL CORNER . . . The Stanford Athletic Department announced the promotions of Gary Migdol and Jamie Zaninovich to Senior Assistant Athletic Directors. "Gary and Jamie have both provided outstanding administrative leadership for Stanford Athletics," said Stanford Athletic Director Ted Leland. "I am pleased that we have been able to reward them for their hard work and look forward to their continued contributions to our department." Migdol is in his 19th year at Stanford and most recently served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations from 1996-2003. He manages a media relations staff that is responsible for publicizing Stanford's 34 intercollegiate sports, while overseeing all broadcasting and internet aspects of the department. Zaninovich is in his seventh year and second stint with Stanford Athletics. He returned to Stanford in 2001 as an Assistant Athletic Director responsible for two distinct areas -- men's basketball and Strategic Planning. He had previously spent four years (1996-99) at Stanford as the Marketing and Operations Director for men's basketball.

COACHING SPOTS . . . Palo Alto High is looking for a girls' junior varsity basketball coach for the upcoming season. Interested coaches can contact Paly girls' varsity coach Amy Stock at 856-5119.
