Sam Fuld and Carlos Quentin each extended their hitting streaks but it wasn't enough to save the Stanford baseball team from a 9-5 nonconference loss to visiting USF on Tuesday.

The Dons beat Stanford for just the seventh time in 54 career games.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal (18-10) visit Washington State on Friday to begin a three-game Pac-10 series at 3 p.m.

Romanczuk (6-0, 4.42 ERA) is tied for the Pac-10 lead in victories.

The Dons scored twice in the sixth to snap a 4-4 tie.

Quentin, who had two doubles, not only extended his career-high hit streak to 16 games, but he picked up his 200th career hit with a first-inning double.

Senior catcher Ryan Garko also doubled twice and drove in three runs to raise his team-leading RBI total to 36.

Fuld extended his hit streak to 12 games, one short of his career-high, with his ninth multiple-hit game during the streak.

Billy Paganetti (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs -- one earned -- and two hits in three innings as the second of five Cardinal pitchers. Paganetti struck out a career-high six, including five in a row.

Sorensen (12-4) struck out 10 and walked one in earning the victory. Catalina Morris had two doubles and Cassi Brangham collected three hits.

Jessica Allister and Lauren Lappin each hit a home run in the second game.
