Police Log Police Log (January 30, 2002)

East Palo Alto police say they have arrested a suspect they believe was involved in an attempted murder of a police officer.

On Jan. 26, police arrested Marc Johnson after he offered to surrender. He was booked at the San Mateo County main jail on a no-bail warrant charging him with attempted murder and violating probation.

Police say they responded to a 911 hang-up call on Jan. 24. The call apparently came from a public telephone on the 2100 block of University Avenue. A security guard told police that the call was probably made by a black man who was just leaving on a bicycle. The guard said he believed the man was selling drugs. An officer tried to stop the man, who wouldn't stop, and eventually abandoned the bike in the front yard of a home.

The suspect then jumped a fence, and as the police officer followed, the suspect pointed a handgun at him and fired a shot. The bullet fired but did not hit the officer. The weapon appeared to explode in the suspect's hand. The suspect dropped the gun and fled. Officers found a trail of blood nearby.
Palo Alto police say they have arrested two suspects in two other states for crimes against Palo Alto residents.

Police arrested Henry Clemons Murray Jr. of Plymouth, Ind. For grand theft and lewd acts against a child. Murray, 35, also used the alias of Lance Dubios. He is a spiritual/psychic advisor on the Internet and has befriended women in several states. Police say he traveled to Palo Alto in late December to visit one of his new friends. During the visit, police say he misused the victim's credit card number and when left alone with the daughter, who is less than 13 years old, he allegedly tried to fondle her.

Another detective traveled to Chicago, Ill. and arrested Rosmin Pirwami, a former employee of Casa Olga care facility in downtown Palo Alto. Police say Pirwami has been charged with bilking a depending adult resident out of $55,000 over several months. She has been charged with grand theft and dependent abuse.
