Junior Cassidy Lichtman enjoyed another diverse evening as the Stanford women’s volleyball team made it two in a row at the Honolulu Volleyball Challenge Friday, beating Weber State, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16.

The 10th-ranked Cardinal (5-2) completes its visit to Hawaii with a match against the host Rainbow Wahine Saturday night.

Lichtman had 10 kills and hit .450 to go with 15 assists, seven digs and two blocks as Stanford won its third straight.

Stephanie Browne, Hayley Spelman and Janet Okogbaa also hit big for the Cardinal, which hit .309 as a unit. The trio combined for 20 kills, a .514 hitting percentage, and 10 blocks.

Junior libero Gabi Ailes had 10 digs and has 1,125 for her career, placing her 10th on Stanford’s all-time list and within reach of Kristin Richards’ record of 1,597. Barbara Fontana is ninth with 1,210.

Ailes has already recorded two of the top three single-season bests, and owns the top two digs per set season record. At her current pace, Ailes would sweep the top four spots.

  1. Even implicitly comparing Ailes to Richards using dig totals is unfair to both players, as digging is a much larger chunk of a libero’s responsibilities than it could be for any non-libero except a DS (and a DS can only play half as many rotations as a libero, so an excellent defensive six-rotation outside hitter would easily out-dig an excellent DS).
