About two dozen joyful Hillary Clinton campaign volunteers watched election returns on CNN Tuesday night in Palo Alto, keeping track of how Clinton was doing statewide and in other primaries.
At 8:15 p.m., CNN posted a graphic showing that with 1 percent of the California vote tallied, Clinton led Barack Obama, 65 percent to 34 percent, sparking wild cheering.
Most of the local Clinton campaign volunteers went to large election-night parties in San Jose or San Francisco.
But a couple of dozen core campaign workers gathered at the San Antonio Road office of high-tech executive Amy Rao, who turned her office into a local Clinton campaign headquarters for the last several weeks.
More cheering periodically broke out as California returns continued to come in, showing Clinton maintaining a solid lead over Obama both statewide and in Santa Clara County.
Rao, who has known Clinton for more than 10 years, said the campaign volunteers put in exhausting hours in the last week or so, working until 3 a.m. some nights planning their efforts.
“It’s about each of us reaching out to everyone we know to get the vote out for Hillary,” Rao said. That included “sisters, aunts and mothers-in-law. We focused out of this office (on outreach) only to women.”
The mostly women who gathered on election night also paused to watch attentively when Obama gave a speech shown on CNN.
“It’s cliché after cliche,” one woman said, almost under her breath.
While Obama was still talking on the television, CNN also showed a graphic of Clinton continuing to hold a sizeable lead in California.
Obama’s words were drowned out by the cheers of the Clinton faithful.

This may all look very good right now but down the road Clinton and/or Obama may have an uphill climb if the Republican ticket is McCain/Huckabee.
Who do you think has a better chance against a McCain/Huckabee ticket?
I am a Republican…rest assured, many of us see that McCain and Huckabee are just as pandering, slimey and socialist as what we have been fighting all these years.
I will stay home..period.
I might even vote for Hilary or Obama just to help one of them get in to the Presidency, put to rest the notion that we are a racist/sexist nation, and let a Democrat take the credit/blame for Democrat policies. If we are going to keep growing the government, raise taxes, keep the border open, increase public dependence, pull out of Iraq before it is ready…I don’t want it to be under a Republican banner.
I am preparing for another set of years like Carter’s. I think the country needs to get what it is asking for, and learn its lesson, just like we did under Carter.

By they way, I got caught up in the Carter fever and idealism, and nice talk also..and worked for his campaign..My parents told me what he was and what would happen under a Presidency by him with an all Democrat House..but I didn’t believe them either.
If Obama wins the Dem ticket, the Dems are toast. McCain, who has strong support from Latinos and conservative independents, could actually take California, and probably Florida.
Also, Obama is too far left to accomplish the change he’s promised. That means we’ll have a deflated American populace that is still suffering through America’s structural problems – that will be a perfect scenario for a return to a Bush-like candidate, and President.
I like what Obama says, but remember what has happened when America elects a too-far-left President. We need a moderate – a pragmatic moderate – in the White House.
trust me…there is no support amongst either fiscal or social conservatives of any stripe for McCain.
He “reached across the aisle” and became a Liberal with an R after his name…I guess in order to be liked or something, I don’t know.
But, he has betrayed every true Republican principle..
+on fiscal policy ( voted down the tax cuts, the proven way to bring more money into the Federal coffers),
+tried to sneak through the illegal immigrant bill which wouldn’t even have closed the border first,
+undercut American sovereignty with the Abu Graib “torture” BS,
+ bought into pandering to the socialist crowd that “Global warming is Human induced, and America is at fault and can fix it” ( with more taxes, of course,) wants to sign the Kyoto bill even though we have done better at reducing emissions than ANY OF THE SIGNERS OF THE TREATY have…all on our own ( we are “3rd” if you don’t take into account that our economy has been the strongest of all the signers, which automatically raises the level of emissions for every other country),
There is more, but I have to run.
The point is still…I am staying home rather than voting for him, and I will be fine with letting the country learn what the left will do to it. I am, frankly, tired of the constant complaining of the media.
The hilarious thing is that I am absolutely certain that the moment McCain is the R nominee, every single paper and liberal will turn on him viciously to defeat him.

Now we see the unraveling of Hillary, she is now using her own money ($5,000,000.00 so far) to fund her campaign.
The mistake: Obama has been put up by monied interests (Open Society Institute) and other like minded parties to make Hillary appear as a centrist.
The backfire: This scam of a plan back fires due to Obama motivational stump speech and overall like ability. OSI made a mistake thinking that the America People were still holding to the same racist ideas they hold so closely.
The key problems: 1) Hillary is a charisma free zone to most. 2) Hillary reminds men of why they divorced their first wife. 3) The overall problem that she is not a pleasant person and humans can see through her thin acting persona to simply choose Obama.
Lesson: You can not force a candidate on the American People.
In the end Hillary will fail.

On the flip side, Hillary will appeal to women not because she is a woman, but because she is the woman that secretly all women would like to be (not for political reasons but for domination over men).
Resident I agree with you that is a valid reason in some women’s minds; but not all.
There are not enough of those like minded women, that vote, to overcome Hillary’s lack of curb appeal.
Thousands of years of male / female relations will not change over one election or one woman for that matter. And thinking so demonstrates the over inflated egos of women that think in this manner.

Obama’s speech (October, 2002):
Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances.
The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union, and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil. I don’t oppose all wars.
My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton’s army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain.

He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.
So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure that the UN inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn’t simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.
Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair.
The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not – we will not – travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.

Translation: Hitler was also a petty dictator that also did not threaten the United States. Unfortunately, the U.S. and many other appeasers in the 30’s followed the Obama message, then that little corporal with the mustache broke out of his shell, and became something else.
Obama is playing his followers like a fish on the hook. He’s having fun with them. If he is elected, he will NOT cut and run form Iraq. He will listen to his generals, and perhaps even up the ante. He is smart enough to know the risks of following his own words. He just wants to get elected. There is always hope (to get elected).

The economy is better than it was before the 80s struck…more electricity, medicine, food and clean water, too..Oh, and a lot less death by government, let alone just plain old death by violence…

People who opposed the war in Iraq were opposing precisely these objectives. Recall UN Inspectors being kicked out, and Saddam’s oppression of his people, and thumbing his nose 17 times at UN Resolutions because France and Russia had convinced him that they could hold us off from enforcement of them, which working to destroy the Sanctions?
People like you will always, always, fight any ability of the USA or any other country to enforce any UN resolutions or overthrow brutal dicatators.. They will always be “dumb wars” until an actual country attacks us, directly..or are you someone who would think “Why go after Germany, it was Japan who attacked us?”

Yet, Barack, with your support, says he would immediately pull out of Iraq, undermining all the deaths so far incurred, and risking their deaths be in vain as the country slides into civil war and ends with another brutal dicatorship.

Does the New York Times “leaking” out the secret financial networks work our Security was shutting down have anything to do with the liberal agenda of undercutting our Security? Fighting “Warrentless” wiretapping of foreign nationals on terrorist lists calling into our country? Making public that, in fact, we do NOT torture, removing all fear from terrorists caught on the field? Do you really think that if we came up with Bin-Laden’s body, Al-Qaeda would wither and die? You haven’t noticed the capture and or killing of multiple “leaders” of Al-Qaeda and the busting of terrorist cells in multiple countries from mutually supported intelligence agencies?

Tellus, Hillary is a published author, public speaker, and the spouse of a multimillionaire. She and her husband have amassed a considerable amount of money. What I’m wondering about is whether Obama would be able to stand the same level of scrutiny that Hillary has, if he makes it to the general election. So far, the press and GOP attack dogs have left Obama alone. Think about that; then think further about how perceptions will change once Obama’s “free pass” disappears.

If Obama takes the White House, the difference between his promises and what RESULTS by 2012 will be so disappointing to the voters in this country, that they will blowback to a very conservative Republican – a la Bush. You can put that in the bank. If Hillary gets elected, she will also be replaced in 2012, _but_ you won’t see the extreme reaction toward the right that will result from an Obama Presidency. Maybe it will take a few more generations of extreme right- and left-wing rhetorical “leaders” to wash free of the floating “dream time” of naive left- and right-wing American wishful thinking, finally returning our politics mostly to the middle, where they belong. Obama will flame out, either before the convention, or during his Presidency – if he makes it that far. Our world – unfortunately – is built on more than inspirational rhetoric.
