Landslides: Should We Be Concerned?

Earthquakes aren't the only natural disasters for which area residents need to prepare. Given the number of landslides that have occurred locally within the past few weeks, residents might be surprised to find out that they might live in an area that is vulnerable to a landslide. Recently three geologists and Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss appeared on "Talking with Henrietta," a one hour television show which airs on Channel 27, to discuss the topic. Many people knowingly live in landslide prone areas. Would you? Or do you think this type of behavior makes no sense at all?

Land will slide when there is a lower level for it to go. We are in the process of finding the lowest level in the City of Palo Alto.

Most cities have maps of slide potential areas. If you are in such an area, there are precautions you can take.
