Original post made by anonymous, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Nov 19, 2008

Foothill-De Anza Community College District is seeking to fill a year-long vacancy on the Board of Trustees. The opening results from the Nov. 4 election of Trustee Paul Fong to represent the 22nd District in the California Assembly. Fong has served on the Foothill- De Anza board since 1993.

The Board of Trustees will appoint a district resident to complete the rest of Fong’s term, starting on Dec. 8, 2008 and continuing until the first Monday in December of 2009, when the term expires. The appointed trustee could choose to stand for election in November of 2009.

Applicants for the position must be registered voters and residents of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. The district encompasses Cupertino, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, most of Sunnyvale and parts of San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga and unincorporated Santa Clara County. A map showing the district’s boundaries can be found at Web Link at the bottom of the page.

Those who wish to apply must submit a resume and a letter summarizing their experience, education and interest relative to the Mission of the Board of Trustees and the board’s Roles and Responsibilities. The mission and roles and responsibilities are available for review on the district’s web site at Web Link. edu/about_ us/board/ mission; or by calling the chancellor’s office at (650) 949-6100; or emailing

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Dec. 1. An orientation meeting will be held for all applicants at 3 p.m. on Dec. 2.

All applications will be forwarded for review to members of the Board of Trustees. Any candidate selected by at least two trustees will be invited to interview with the board at a public meeting on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.

The Board of Trustees consists of seven members; five are elected at large to four-year terms and two are student trustees who are elected annually by students their respective campuses, Foothill College and De Anza College. The board meets once or twice a month, as needed.
