Pollution, noise, calories, and too low a profit to offset the costs.
Sam says: Why can't we have ice cream trucks drive down our precious streets and sell their ice cream?
To do this you'd have to make a profit. With gasoline prices in the stratosphere, and milk prices going up daily you'd have to charge over $5.00 for a mini cone. Would you pay that? I think it's cheaper to ride your bike to Baskin Robbins.
Ice cream trucks are an endangered species everywhere.
Move to Redwood City...we have a LOT of them :-)
We have ringing ice cream carts in our neighborhood. The folks pushing them are very friendly and have a great selection. Fruit bars, yuuuuummmmm...
We wouldn't have these oil prices if we drilled off shore and in Alaska. You can't whine about both polar bears and gas prices. Choose one, and cry me a river. Liberal PC Palo Altans make me sick. Go back to Moscow.
Our road are too bumpy for Ice Cream trucks. I dont want my children to eat ice-creams that have a scoop that does not hold well in the cone.
Why don't you ask the ice cream vendors?
Probably some neighbors will complain. Then it will have to come before the city council, who will hire consultants to study the matter, put together blue ribbon panels for further study. Probably after 3-4 years, at a cost to taxpayers of a few hundred thousand dollars they will vote on the issue.
Is it really worth it?
The sound of an ice cream truck approaching, playing its little tune was such a happy childhood memory. It would be lovely for all children to somehow experience that small summer thrill.
The city should subsidize an ice cream truck program, as part of PACT! Otherwise we would be ripping the heart out of all that is special about Palo Alto!
