ABC's 9/11 docudrama

Original post made by Jag Singh, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Sep 9, 2006

Well, the White House penchant of distorting the facts to deflect mounting criticism of its abysmal failure to reign in Osama Bin Laden is in full swing. Its latest partner in crime is the ABC television network which unleashed a media blitz to promote its fictional account of 9/11. The new docudrama, called “the Path to 9/11”, erroneously claims to be factually based on the 9/11 Commission Report. Scriptwriter Cyrus Nowrasteh, a friend of Rush Limbaugh, claims President Clinton had "frequent opportunities in the '90s to stop Bin Laden in his tracks -- but lacked the will to do so." By playing fast and loose with the facts, ABC and its parent, Disney Productions, dishonors the victims of 9/11 in a crude attempt to ‘swift boat’ the democrats. The fictional account, depicts a scene of a CIA official claiming he had Osama Bin Laden in his sights and seeks permission from the Clinton White House to ‘make his day’ only to be denied by Clinton’s executive order. Sandy Berger, President Clinton's National Security Advisor, and Richard Clarke – the counterterrorism czar for the Clinton administration has characterized the scene as "a total fabrication”. Roger Cressey, a top Bush and Clinton counterterrorism official, said it was "something straight out of Disney and fantasyland. It's factually wrong. And that's shameful." I urge readers to call Walt Disney president, Robert Iger, and demand an unconditional public apology to all those officials that have been maligned by such gross fabrications.

If the Clintons have a right to censor this docudrama, shouldn't the Bush crowd have had the right to censor Michael Moore's movie about 9/11? And Gore's global warming movie was filled with falsehoods too -- shouldn't scientists who disagree with his theories have a right to censor that movie? In this case, the Clintons will at least force ABC to edit this docudrama if not cancel it altogether -- and the Clintons aren't even in power right now. Imagine what will happen when Hillary is elected in two years? One thing Bill and Hillary have always favored is the "Fairness Doctrine" (which is a Orwellian term if there ever was one) that would force right-wing broadcasters off the air. I'll bet you're in favor of that too. I think you should let all of these producers, artists, talk-show hosts and commentators, even though they're overwhelming left-wing, say what they want without interference from corporate or government big shots. In fact, I think anybody who tries to censor the media should be brought up on charges and face jail time. Oh, one falsehood you're spreading Jag is about Cyrus Nowrasteh, the scriptwriter for the ABC miniseries. I don't know if he's a friend of Rush Limbaugh, but he's written a bunch of movies left wingers have raved about including "The Day Reagan Was Shot" (2001) and the pro-labor, pro-Socialist "10,000 Black Men Named George" (2002), each of resulted in awards for Nowrasteh from the liberal PEN USA West Literary Awards. Jag, quit relying on kook left-wing blogs for your facts.

Yes, I am appalled that anyone thinks it is acceptable in my country to censor a MOVIE for it's IDEAS..especially a former President and current legislators in our country. Shameful. Scary.

By the way...which party if anti-free speech?

And, check your facts. Have you actually read the 9/11 commission report? I have. There was nothing against the 9/11 report in the movie. Actual full conversations are not recorded in the 9/11 commission report, but actions, and lack of them, are.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
