Getting the word out

For 20 years, the way most East Palo Alto residents got their information about the city was by word of mouth. On street corners and under front-yard trees, the shade-tree talkers gossiped about the city's goings on. And often — when information was tinged with suspicion or embellishment — misunderstanding and myths resulted, city leaders said.

I was so impressed with the news about the EPA Media project and how Nancy Brink is not only educating youth in media skills but involved in the students aspirations and difficulties of everyday life. Her encouragement of them should inspire us all.

Looking forward to more news and details of the EPA Media project and its progress as project but also to the human vignettes of its students.
