Oregon Expressway improvements being completed by the County of Santa Clara

Original post made by Stan Hutchings, Old Palo Alto, on Jul 18, 2013

[letter to City Council, Craig Petersen and Aaron Aknin regarding Web Link]
Stoplights on Oregon should be synchronized to allow free flow of traffic from Foothill Expressway past El Camino Real all the way to US101. It is really annoying to have traffic backed up due to lights that impede rather than encourage the smooth flow of traffic. It is especially irking for 20 to 30 cars or more to be stopped so one car can turn left onto Oregon.

Oregon is named an Expressway. If the lights are not synchronized, this is a misnomer and should be changed, perhaps to Oregon Stop, Wait and Go Way.

An additional light at Ross will not help the problem, unless all the lights are synchronized. Meanwhile, I'll continue to take N. California to Embarcadero and get on 101 from there. It's faster and smoother, with just one light.

Yes, I realize Oregon is a County road, but PLEASE work together to make traffic smooth. This is a Palo Alto issue that should be solved.

SCCO is responsible from E Bayshore to Bryant.

Caltrans controls the El Camino Intersection.

Palo Alto manages Page Mill Road.

3 agencies. Good luck with that.

Well, not quite. Acc. to what I've been told:.......
Santa Clara County controls two street lights at the El Camino/Page Mill intersection - but only the two with stoplights underneath. These two are chronically burned out and are now and have been for some time. Caltrans supposedly controls El Camino which is state highway 84. Many lights out. Then Palo Alto controls the Oregon Expressway from 101 to El Camino, and right now there are numerous lights out. Also Palo Alto controls Page Mill from El Camino to the 280 junction.
From what I've learned, Palo alto is also responsible for cutting down the weeds from Foothill to 280. ....which rarely happens. So it's an administrative mess. The exits and entrances from 101 to inbound PA streets are terrible. SanAntonio is filthy. So is Oregon. Caltrans cut down some weeds at Embarcadero but left some trash piled up - weeks ago.Who is 'minding the store'?
