Pro Sports -how will they handle this? I heard on the radio this guy is likely to retire, so no risk to him to disclose this info. Someone in prime of pro sports career will be more notable.
Not being male and not caring that much about peoples' sexuality, I can't relate to the bigtime pro sports culture.
That said...one's sexuality is a private matter, and it is getting tiring of the constant revelations - almost exhibitionalism in certain cases - about "famous" peoples' sexuality. I really don't care. There are rumors that Tom Cruise is gay - who knows - who cares.
Now, if in the case of pro sports it is going to have a material difference in one's employability, that is different and we don't want discrimination. But - some gay people choose to stay in the closet, and that is their choice, and I don't think it is anyone else's business whether one is gay, straight, or bi.
"That said...one's sexuality is a private matter..."
conflicts directly with
"There are rumors that Tom Cruise is gay..."
Anything else you seek to cast judgement upon?
Of course the reason that gay athletes hide their sexuality is that they are afraid of employment discrimination. Same goes for gay actors, gay politicians, gay business executives, etc. Times are changing there is less discrimination now than in the past, but I'm sure that many who have come out are seeing fewer job opportunities or promotion opportunities. We will see if Jason can still find a job next season.
I don't have the slightest interest in Tom Cruise, my point is there has been a lot of speculation publicly about him AND who cares. It has nothing to do with the pot calling the kettle black.
I think we could all spend our time better focusing on other matters, and who cares about Jason Collins' private life, either.
I have never bothered to look up rumors about Tom Cruise on the interwebs, nor whatever is being printed about him in the National Enquirer or People.
I guess those magazines are made for someone, someone has to be NOT interested enough in Tommy to buy them.
Anyway, after the next ten major sport athletes come out, it's over and done with as news.
