Boxes instead of bags

Original post made by Resident, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Apr 22, 2013

Now that we are getting more and more places where there will be no plastic bags and being charged for paper bags, a good alternative will be to use cardboard boxes or plastic crates.

These boxes or crates can be kept in the trunk and either taken into the store or left in the car and purchases can be put back into the cart for you to transfer when you get back to your car. Costco has been doing this for a while, we can do the same elsewhere.

I am in the habit of taking grocery bags into grocery stores, but not places like Target or WalMart.

I think the bans and charges have gone too far and I think it is wrong for us to be charged for advertising where we have been shopping. 10c may not be much for one bag, but when they start charging 25c per bag and if they start double bagging too, then we are just ending up paying a lot more.

One more question, is what does the money go to? Do the individual cities get the revenue or do the stores? Who will benefit from this move?

Do we still get a 5c discount for each bag we bring?
