City hires Chief Communications Officer

Original post made by common sense, Midtown, on Apr 17, 2013

Saw this in another paper "Palo Alto hires first-ever Chief Communications officer": Web Link

Does anyone remember how the city cut funding for animal services, and police staffing? Yet they have the money to pay to hire the "first-ever Chief Communications Office", for a total cost of around $260,000 (salary + benefits).

The way the city's budget and the posturing is just amazing.

C'mon. Don't bully the poor district administrators! This is the single best use of a quarter-million dollars they could think of.

Teacher pay, books, supplies, field trips, yard duties, a couple of more counselors at Gunn? Nah. Not as important as making sure that they have someone to say to the public exactly what their attorney wants them to say.

Nothing behind that curtain, little girl. Move along, move along.

So the City and the school district both have new Communications Officers. I hope they manage to talk to each other!

It's within a 10% pay range compare to the Mayor of SF!

Sounds like an overpaid, luxurious position and completely unnecessary. Your tapayer dollars (not) at work.
Oh, the next thing we'll hear is: we don't have enough money to pave the roads and we need more bonds. Oh, that's a separate category, I understand, but in the end it often amounts to a situation of negligent politicians not managing our money well.
I object to the hiring of the PR person here, as well as in the school district.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
