Stanford overwhelmed in Super Regional final

Original post made on Jun 11, 2012

Florida State got its offense rolling in a hurry, turning it into an avalanche of runs. The Seminoles beat Stanford, 18-7, Sunday, to advance to the College World Series in Omaha. The Cardinal was outscored 35-8 in the two games of the Tallahassee Regional. Still, Stanford provided some highlights.

This was a sad way to end the season. This team was either overrated or an underachiever;take your pick. 35 runs scored against, 21 walks, 6 hit by pitches and 43 lob in four games in post season play. Mooneyham in the super regionals did not make it past the 3rd inning each weekend...and he is the number 2 guy?? Any reasonable person would have to say that this team was a major disappointment no matter how you sugar coat "what might have been". Team batting average for conference play was only 270...
Did the early season press clippings go to this team's head??

"Stanford will likely have to replace its entire weekend pitching rotation"

Gave up 35 runs in 2 games? Maybe replacing the entire rotation is a good thing.

A definite disappointment for the Super Regionals. Was that a soccer crowd at Florida State or what? Speaks to a neutral venue for important games or using both team venues!
Good fun baseball to take in during the season though; triple play by Michigan State? vs Fresno State, and that amazing pass ball that Stanford scored 3 runs off of, makes for fun baseball watching. Thanks Stanford! Better luck next year.

Stanford ranked 15th lost two games to Florida State ranked 3rd in the nation.

I don't the reason or excuse for such put down comments.

To be in a community where Stanford, Paly and Gunn do so well in sports while maintaining academic excellence is a joy. Why be negative.
