is there a gang war going on in Mountain View?

Original post made by lives close to Mountain View, South of Midtown, on Nov 28, 2010

We were bicycling along California Avenue (between Castro Street and San Antonio) in Mountain View at around 3pm this afternoon. In less than 1 mile, we saw three big police actions. Each incident had 4 to 6 police cars stopped in the middle of the street with their lights flashing. At each stop, there were half dozen men surrounded by cops and handcuffed against a wall.

Does anyone know what is going on in Mountain View?

I'm all for police catching criminals, but what kind of crime problem does Mountain View have to need this kind of police action?

Were they targeting specific people or rounding up "all the usual suspects" or just racial profiling?

How many police cars does Mountain View have anyway? I saw at least a dozen cars in action. I've never seen more than 2 Palo Alto police cars at the same place.

Mt. View cops know what it takes to preserve their main downtown business district, Castro St. They don't wait for the gang-bangers to show up on Castro, they go out to the periphery, and take the war to the bangers.

Palo Alto has already lost its downtown business district. It is full of bums and increasing serious crime.

Mt. View does NOT want to become Palo Alto!

Just before 1:30 this afternoon, MVPD was called to the 2200 block of California for an assault which may have been gang related. At least two people were hospitalized and, for a time, the Stanford ER was locked down. Vehicles were stopped at several locations. At least a dozen people were taken into custody. Almost half a dozen PAPD units responded as well a number of units from Los Altos to assist the Mountain View police. MVPD also had extra units available because this occurred during a shift change and the evening units skipped briefing to provide additional coverage.

Thanks for the report. Mountain View sure is a wild and crazy place. Must have been a pretty intense assault if more than a dozen people were arrested.

Can't believe that such a huge crime issue right on Palo Alto's border has not been reported in the local press.

This is the true price for cheap labor.
