Toyota to Recall 437,000 Hybrids World-Wide

Original post made by Sharon, Midtown, on Feb 9, 2010

A reluctant Toyota Motor Corp. announced Tuesday a global recall of its flagship Prius and other gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles Web Link

Steve Wozniak, who owns a number of Priuses, has claimed for some time that the Prius has serious bugs in its drive by wire software which causes out of control acceleration as well as serious braking problems.

Toyotas mistake was to deny, then minimize this problem by claiming it was a simple mechanical hardware issue.Web Link

Today Honda announced a major recall of its cars going back to 2001 models.

The issue with the drive by wire Prius danger and that of other DBW Toyota cars in PA is that they not only endanger the lives of the owners but also the lives of pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.
The Prius is prone to uncontrolled acceleration and failed brakes, imagine the results in a congested environment like PA which has so many Prius drivers.

The resale value of these cars must have decline dramatically,

this is a Perrier moment for Toyota, in 1990 Perrier went from a number 1 brand in bottled waters in the US to none existent, it still has not recovered 20 yrs later.

Just wondering, how many accidents in Palo Alto have been attributed to this? With so many of Priuses around here, I would expect that there is an epidemic of accidents.
