For the past eleven months, organizers worked tirelessly to plan the event, including. obtaining business sponsorships, rallying community involvement, and recruiting participants. The event symbolized the unity of the Stanford student body toward the common goal of combating health inequity in the developing world. To help keep the marathoners energized, nearly two dozen student groups performed throughout the event, and two hundred “Moralers” arrived in three-hour shifts to pump everyone up. In all, nearly 1,000 students were involved in the event.
Overall, the event proved to a great success as the dancers raised over $112,000 (and counting) for Partners In Health, a social justice organization that has revolutionized the manner in which basic, modern medical care reaches the world’s poorest communities. In its four year history, Stanford Dance Marathon has raised more than $370,000.
