Thanks for the link. This jibes a lot with what I've seen--adults who feel like failures because the expectations set up when they were kids--that they brilliant, geniuses--are ones impossible to achieve. I'm glad to see that there's been research on it. I can think of a couple of people who might feel a little better if they read it.
I don't think it's praise, per se, that's bad, but praise of something that;s a passive quality instead of a trait over which the child feels he or she has some control.
There's also just a lot to be said for learning to fail and survive another day. School's become such a high-stakes game, particularly when it comes to college admissions.
