Looking for ways to help others? No experience necessary only the desire to serve others at one of the most meaningful times of life. Mission Hospice of San Mateo County will be holding an informational meeting for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at their offices at 1900 O’Farrell Street, Suite 200 in San Mateo. To accommodate different schedules, the meetings will be held from 12-1:00 pm and repeated again from 5:30-6:30 pm. For more information please contact the Volunteer Program Manager Matt McCoy at 650-554-1000.
Attendees at this informational meeting will receive a brief overview of different volunteer programs such as Hospice care, Transitions pre-hospice support and Bereavement support.
Examples of hospice volunteer activities are: calling and checking in on patients and their families, reading to patients, providing emotional and spiritual support, running errands, active listening, cooking meals, driving to medical appointments. Volunteers are considered full members of the hospice team and no volunteer is ever asked to do anything beyond their emotional or physical capabilities.
