Connect Ed Emergency System

Original post made by Parent, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Dec 13, 2007

Just had a call on the new ConnectEd School Emergency system. Hope it is working well. This is not an emergency and Skelly says that they will use it for reminding us of Back to School Nights and Minimum Days (good idea), however, since I have 3 kids at school, I wonder if I will get 3 calls. I have had 2 emails warning me to expect the trial this evening.

An "emergency system" is to be used for the unexpected. I would subscribe to an emergency system,

A "reminder system" is a different thing. I'd be interested only if I can select what kind of reminders I subscribe to:

  - Minimum days? OK, if notice comes 48 hours in advance while I still have time to plan for it.

  - No school days? OK, ditto.

  - Back-to-School night? OK, since it's only once a year.

  - PTA activities? Spare me. Enews suffices.

So, Mr. Skelly, if you want people to subscribe, use the system sparingly, or give us control over what you send our way. I don't want to be spammed by PAUSD.
