Not Friday! University Avenue must not be closed except on weekends. You don't realize how the traffic backs up. You don't realize how many of the employed are trying to get to the Caltrain station on their various shuttles. Solve the traffic problem - fine. Otherwise, leave Univ. Ave. alone on weekdays.

I noticed that the person who wants to close University Avenue lives on Margarita. I bet they would change their tune if they lived in either downtown north or south of Forest. When University is shut, traffic in both neighborhoods becomes an absolute nightmare. The traffic is diverted through the neighborhoods and the the drivers become frustrated. When the promenade happened last month, it took 40 minutes to get from 101 to Alma. What an unbelievably stupid idea. I am surprised that the pro-environment mayor would even consider this again. I wonder how much gas was wasted by all of those cars who sat in bumper to bumper traffic while just trying to get home.

The big problem with the Friday evening close last month is that it wasn't a Friday evening close. The street was closed at 10.00 a.m. That was the main problem. Traffic was impacted because drivers were not aware of a closure. The drivers were from commuters, shoppers, tour buses, VTA buses, shuttle buses, etc. etc. All were expecting a closure from 4.00 p.m. and had probably made other plans for later in the day if they had been aware of the closure. So, the problem was closing earlier than had been publicised and then probably closing at the time of day when commuters were still travelling. If the closure had started when it said it would and possibly 6.00 pm would have been better than 4.00 p.m. it would have been a very different experiment. We do need to experiment again, but to do it at the right time and the right time should not be too early and should be well publicised.

Resident, a resident of Another PA Neighborhood --

Wrong: Stanford Marguerite shuttles - for one - did not know of ANY closure.

But what good would it have done for them to have known? There are not any other ways to get to the train station.

And by the way, commuters are still travelling until at least 6:30.

Sorry, but further commenting on this topic has been closed.
