California to refer to monkeypox as MPX to avoid stigmatization of name

State public health officials said Wednesday that they will avoid using the term monkeypox when possible going forward, referring to the virus instead as MPX.

The State can call it what it likes. It will be called monkeypox by national media and those in other English speaking countries. When WHO decides on another name, they will change again.

German measles are still called German measles even though the official name is rubella.
