With help from new housing laws, SummerHill wins approval for townhome project

Despite getting panned during Palo Alto's architectural review process, SummerHill Homes got the green light for a 48-townhome project, which showcases the growing influence of state housing laws.

This is the face of the future where the California state government tells cities what sort of high rise, resource gobbling, water using developments they need to build. Cities give in to developers who want to make a quick buck off of scare land because the state will sue them if they do not acquiesce.

The state government is run by development interests that do not care about overpopulation, massive environmental destruction and pollution, lack of water and your quality of life. Massive developments need to be approved no matter what the cost in terms of livability of your town or the state or even the world. Construction leading to destruction of life is where the money is.

@tmp, right you are. They continue to reject each and every appeal to the erroneous housing "targets" no matter how reasonable, no matter how grounded in realities like the drought, no matter how right they are that the numbers are wrong because they ignore economic changes, including but not limited to declining population, remote working, etc.

It's a rigged game with the vast majority of the housing units favoring high-income single techies, not families, not low income etc. BECAUSE our officials are rewarding their deep-pocketed backers with more tech housing for the very companies that refuse to pay even a pittance in local business taxes.
