Balderdash!!! There's no olden in the new design.

Palo Alto City staff and Council need to terminate the counterproductive requirement of parking for California Ave retail and dining businesses that are in close proximity of one of Cal Ave's numerous parking lots and structures.

In the case of the former Nut House, that particular building is the very closest building to the always-mostly-empty giant concrete 6-level full-block parking garage monstrosity that overshadows it from directly behind. There is virtually no closer parking spot to the old Antonio's than that ridiculous, wasteful, toxic cement garage.

Given that the city paid what many believe to be nine figures of hard-earned taxpayer money for that eyesore, it might as well put it to some use. It's simple to find parking near Cal Ave, if one merely uses the still mostly-unused gigantic garage on Sherman Street.

With sadness over the loss of my second-favorite stomping ground from the 1980's (the first being the original Old Pro's on El Camino, and the third being 42nd St Bar & Grill, where I worked from the day I turned 21).... I wish the new owners of Antonio's Nut House the most success in their future endeavor.

And finally, I urge them to consider embracing ecologically sustainable technologies and appliances, if nothing else, to counteract the irreparable environmental damage caused by the unnecessary and costly cement mountain looming over them.

I met some of the most interesting people at the Nuthouse. Nothing will ever come close in this town anymore. California Ave. lost it's soul.

That building should not be a candidate for historic preservation.
