Gunn knocked Cupertino from the ranks of the unbeaten Thursday with a 41-27 victory at Cupertino.

With the win Gunn (6-2, 3-1) moved into a tie with Cupertino (6-1, 3-1) for second place in the SCVAL El Camino Division, one game behind Los Altos.

The Titans finished with an unofficial total of 513 yards rushing. The one pass they attempted was intercepted.

“We didn’t throw because we were getting everything we wanted,” Gunn coach Jason Miller said.

Just another day at the office for Gunn quarterback James Lambert.

Quarterback James Lambert carried 14 times for 231 yards and three touchdowns.

“James did a magnificent job controlling the game and running the show,” Miller said. “His wizardry made everything work.”

Filippi Montes rushed for 147 yards on 11 carries, scoring two touchdowns and Kevin Green gained another 121 yards on 17 carries.

The score was tied 13-13 late in the second quarter when Lambert scored on a 2-yard run to send Gunn into halftime with a 20-13 lead. Green’s 35-yard run in the third quarter made it a two-touchdown lead.

But for all the offensive fireworks, Miller credited the job his defense did as a key factor in the win.

“We played tight man coverage on their receivers,” Miller said. “We wanted to shrink their playbook and make them do stuff they’re not comfortable with.”

Gunn is at home against Fremont a week from Friday.

  1. Not bad for a team without “talent” per a commenter earlier this week ? Any of these 3 backs would fit nicely into anyone’s back field , give them their due.
