Convict arrested for assault, robbery of man in his 70s

A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly beating and robbing a man in his 70s at the downtown Palo Alto Caltrain station on Friday morning, Palo Alto police said Tuesday.

Very glad they charged the suspect with elder abuse. I also hope police and social services were able to assist the victim with shelter and other necessities.

Given the time and place, this sounds like a crime perpetrated by one homeless individual towards another.

Mental health issues may have come into play but that assertion is for the police and local news media to verify.

Is it customary nowadays not to disclose the ethnicity of the assailant?

Perhaps this unfortunate incident could have been avoided if Palo Alto provided temporary overnight shelter for the homeless.

What would the alleged perpetrator's ethnicity (or the victim's for that matter) have to do with any of this? Seriously. Why would you even ask that question?
